Thanksgiving: Our Favorite Holiday!
We absolutely love Thanksgiving! When you combine family time with copious amounts of amazing, home-cooked food you're practically guaranteed to have a great time. We have the pleasure of celebrating on two different days so we get twice the fun and food, which is definitely a win-win. We also like to take this week to really think about everything we are thankful for, and we have a lot!
Family.
Maybe the most obvious thing we are thankful for is family. We have an amazing network of extended family who is always giving us all the support we could ever need. Not to mention all the free babysitting we could ask for! Just kidding of course but it is a huge help when we can have someone come and watch the baby while we work cattle all day. Not that he isn't a super-trooper during farm-time usually but all day in the body-carrier can be hard on the little guy. We try to never take our family for granted and always appreciate the love and support that they unwaveringly offer.
Opportunity.
We've been very blessed to have the amazing opportunity to be at the farm we are at with the knowledge we can someday own it. Many farms only come up for sale once in a lifetime and the competition to buy them can be brutal. We are very thankful we've been "taken in" by a wonderful family who has worked with us every step of the way. Not very many people get the opportunity to be given the first chance at buying a farm that isn't already owned by extended family and for that, we are very grateful.
Health
While of course, we are very thankful for our health as humans we are also extremely thankful for healthy cattle. The changing of the seasons usually brings on a bought of sickness through the herd and this year it has been very minimal. Fall is when we bring in the most cattle all at once so if the health starts to decline it can very easily turn into a trainwreck overnight. This year the cattle have been weathering the changing of the seasons very well and as a result, we've had minimal sickness. This means that hours (and dollars) previously spent treating cattle can now be spent doing something fun as a family.
We could honestly keep going and going with a list of things we are thankful for this year. From vehicles that are reliable to friends with big hearts we try and take an extra moment to remember all the big and little things, we should never take for granted. It is too easy to forget all of the blessings in our life so it's nice for us to have a special reminder each year in the form of our favorite holiday: Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
From Our Family to Yours!
