Hello! East Riverside Farm is a family farm owned by us: John and Emily Crain. We were married on June 20th, 2015 and have been feeding cattle together ever since! Our current journey started when John was hired as a farmhand on a dairy beef feedlot in Saint Johns, Michigan the summer of 2012. This position offered us a unique opportunity of working with a pair of brothers who were looking to slowly get out of the cattle business. With no children who wanted to work the farm after they retired, we were offered the opportunity to rent the entire feedlot as they phased out of feeding cattle. Fast forward a few years and we were renting the feedlot and fed cattle for ourselves and our custom feeding customers

We fed cattle in St. Johns until the end of the summer in 2019. In the blink of an eye, we were offered the chance to buy a newer and bigger feedlot in Breckenridge with the house a half mile away coming up for sale at the same time. Believing that doors were closing and windows were opening, we jumped at the opportunity to move ourselves and several hundred cattle 40 minutes north.

As of January 1st, 2020 we were officially in charge of our new barn and the several thousand cattle that live in it. Managing a large facility comes with its own set of difficulties but we work closely with the former owner who has helped make the transition as smooth as possible. We’ve really enjoyed living in Breckenridge so far, and know it will be a fantastic town to raise our two little farmers in as well!

By telling our story and sharing the facts about modern agriculture we hope to help consumers make informed decisions about their food based on facts, not fear. We hope to dispel all the misinformation about farming practices and help people understand why we've made the decisions we've made. We want to be transparent in our farming techniques, whether they are dealing with crop farming or cattle feeding. Above all, we strive to provide a safe, nutritious, and environmentally friendly product to our customers that they will love in return.
